Yesterday, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Laurann Dohner said she’d have some news today. Today, she posted the news: she has one book completed and another in progress, both to be released in December. The really big news happens in the first and second comment:
For the visually impaired, Valerie asked:
Will this be a self-published venture or through your regular publisher?
(All of Ms. Dohner’s previous books have been published by Ellora’s Cave.)
She replied:
You go right for the tough one, Valerie. LOL. This is my project. It’s my baby.
Which several people interpreted to mean these two books will not be published by Ellora’s Cave.
Existing Series
Ms. Dohner did say further along in comments that, “I still have a “to write” list a mile long for my other series.” So we can expect to see more in those lines, though she hasn’t stated whether or not those books will be published by Ellora’s Cave. Legendarily, Ms. Dohner signed a 75-book contract with Ellora’s Cave in 2011, but of course we don’t know exactly what the terms of that contract are.
I’m happy for Laurann and her new books, and I’m glad she’ll be able to bring them out independently. I could even pick up copies without breaking my “no Ellora’s Cave titles” rule. During this last year, I’ve met some huge fans of Ms. Dohner’s writing, and I’m looking forward to being able to see what the fuss is about.
Comments
I’d love to hear your comments, but please keep them polite. It’s a big step announcing a shift to being an indie writer, and it can be a scary time.
Also, this post may (or may not) have been brought to you by repeated listenings of Ozan Çolakoğlu’s song “Aşk Gitti Bizden” featuring Tarkan on vocals (English lyrics).
I hope she has great success with this! After all she’s been through recently with her health, she’s worked her butt off to recover from it. She seems like a very nice person on Facebook, and I, too, am looking forward to reading her new self-pubbed books.
I love Laurann and her work and can’t wait to read this new series. She’s a fabulous writer who deserves only the best.
I wish her many sales and a fantastic time writing down her to do list. I met her and her husband in 2011 at a conference and they were very sweet very nice people.
Laurann is a fantastic writer and has been through a heck of a lot over the last year or so. I wish her all the happiness in the world, along with major sales.
I add my voice to the chorus of goodwill. This is excellent news for Laurann and her fans. Her struggles to return to her writing after her stroke were followed by many of her fans. The fact that she has developed a new series and is self publishing it to boot? What a wonderful step for her career and her personally. I wish her all the best and am looking forward to picking up her new series in December when it becomes available.
I wish the very best for Laurann with this new endeavor. I don’t know if we will ever hear about her experiences with EC as she seems more comfortable out of the limelight. I’m sure there are stories there to tell.
As for your last link… thanks a lot for the new compelling ear worm! 😛 I was obsessed with Vitas about a decade ago: https://youtu.be/tITWIcNeTjw and am currently going thru a love affair with various Tuvan such as Otuken https://youtu.be/LOEsVpGKl_M ; I wish world music were more mainstream in the US, but I love finding these gems by way of various online recommendations. Such rich story and soul and feeling…
I stopped reviewing Laurann’s books when she moved onto her “Species” series without finishing her previous Zorn Warrior series. Not professional. As for Elloras Cave…. 🙁
Sometimes this happens due to the market needs of the publisher rather than the author’s preferences. It’s turned out well for Laurann generally, though.
