In chronological order, here’s my educational background and workshop experience in writing. Workshops are either a format that works for you or not. For me, I really do need the disparate takes on my pieces every now and again to highlight what I still need to work on.
BA in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in creative writing, Vermont College (then of Norwich University), Montpelier, Vermont.
Odyssey Writing Workshop, Manchester, New Hampshire. Mentors were: Melissa Scott, Delia Sherman, Ellen Kushner, Michael McDowell, Esther Friesner, Elizabeth Hand, and Warren Lapine.
Clarion, East Lansing, Michigan. Mentors were: Patricia Wrede, Terry Bisson, Leslie What Geoff Ryman, Patrick Nielsen Hayden, Tim Powers, and Karen Joy Fowler.
Viable Paradise, Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. Mentors were: Patrick Nielsen Hayden, Teresa Nielsen Hayden, James D. Macdonald, Debra Doyle, Stephen Gould, and James Patrick Kelly.
MA in Writing Popular Fiction, Seton Hill University, Greensburg, Pennsylvania. They were not yet offering the MFA degree.
