Stores
- Kepler’s Books is a mainstay of Menlo Park and its history, all the way back to its counterculture roots. The Grateful Dead used to practice here before they made it big.
- Draeger’s is an independent grocers with stores in several area locations. They have a lot of specialty foods, some quite expensive, which is how they’ve sometimes earned the affectionate nickname “Two Whole Paychecks” (where Whole Foods is known simply as Whole Paycheck).
Local Farmer’s Markets
Rick keeps a list of farmer’s markets near us.
Restaurants
Our favorites.
- Flea St. Cafe While Chez Panisse usually (and incorrectly) gets all the credit for the local and organic movement, Jesse Cool was an early advocate. Wonderful food that’s good for you, too. We’ve toured Jesse’s garden, where some of her restaurant’s vegetables come from.
- Shiok, genuine Singaporean food, including Chili Crab.
- Back-a-Yard, amazing Caribbean food.
