Mom’s finally moved out of the hospital into rehab, which is great. She’s there to build up strength so that they can do the hernia surgery safely. They will also have to remove her gall bladder, but that is less of a problem at this point. Unfortunately, they can’t do both at once (unless they have to to save pt’s life), since the hernia needs a clean field, and the gallbladder’s considered a dirty surgery (meaning one with lots of chance for infection).
Our friend is house sitting and cat sitting, and since the cat loves him (and will actually show up when he calls), that’s a good thing.
We’re on a trip that mom was supposed to join us on, but obviously couldn’t. We’ll do something later that’s more of a “her” trip, since this was definitely a my thing trip. She probably won’t be cleared for travel for several months, though.
Thank you for this good news. It’s great to read that your mom is doing so well. Will she be able to have laparoscopic surgery for both operations? I recall that having past surgeries could compromise the field, so to speak. The problem was scar tissue causing adhesions that were hard to work around. Sure beats old fashioned invasive approaches, though.
Your mom’s recovery is setting an uplifting tone to the summer. I’m so glad for all of you.
The plan is to do laparoscopic surgery, yes. She has two hernias, and the lesser one is from prior surgery (when she had endometrial cancer).
A friend who’s worked in one of the very best teaching hospitals was surprised my mom had survived; it’s a very, very bad combination. She was lucky (and stubborn) and had a great care team, for which we’re supremely thankful.
Oh that’s good news! I’m very glad for you all; here’s hoping her recovering is consistent and as easy as possible. I hope you all are getting some more regular sleep!
Hi. Just getting better.
And we’re very glad!
Great to read this.
Thanks!
This is terrific news! Hope she continues to recover at lightning speed. Laparoscopic surgery is the best approach if possible. Glad to hear that is the plan.
Kaiser tends to go for whatever gets them the best results, numbers-wise.
I continue to hold your fam in my thoughts
Did you see the Nebula results…….women writers dominate.

Greetings from Montenegro!
Mom continues to improve.
I did see the Nebula results and have indeed notice how strong women were in the final tally. I’m sure that’s chapped some hides. 😉
FWIW, I nominated the Alaya Dawn Johnson piece for a Hugo.
